Catching Redfish and Speckled Trout out of Weeks Bay off of Mobile Bay!

The following fishing photos are pictures of my son Grant Smith from Fairhope, AL and me, Rob Smith.

The redfish you see me holding was caught on Friday evening at aprox. 6:30pm July 11, 2008.  It weighed in at just a little over 10 lbs and was 29.75 inches long, and was caught on a Berkley Gulp pearl white minnow in the mouth of Weeks Bay at the end of county road 1.

On that following Sunday, June 13, 2008, afternoon in the exact same spot my son, Grant Smith, caught this beautiful speckled trout on his brand new blue rod and reel that cost $11.96 from Wal-Mart.  He was using a Cajun thunder popping cork and live shrimp and caught the speck on his first cast.  The speck weighed in at a shocking 4 lbs and was 20.5 inches long.  Grant is 4 yrs old and this is his first summer to go fishing in a boat.  I have never seen him so excited and to be honest I don’t know who was more excited me or him.  He is hooked for life now and just goes to show that even though Dad spent over $100 for his rod and reel you don’t have to have a lot to take a kid fishing and have a memory for life!!!
